The Opportunity
A world-renowned engineering consultancy with an outstanding international reputation for sustainable design is seeking a Senior Environmental Design Engineer to join their Sustainability and Physics team in London. This is a rare opportunity to work at the cutting edge of net zero carbon design, delivering building performance consultancy on some of the most complex and high-profile projects in the UK and globally.
The Role
You'll operate at the forefront of net zero carbon, building performance and occupant wellbeing — from complex retrofits to world-leading new developments. Collaborating with architects, engineers and clients, you'll help shape buildings that respond intelligently to climate, regulation and human comfort. The team also contributes actively to industry bodies shaping sustainability guidance at a national level.
- Deliver environmental design and building performance consultancy from concept through to technical delivery
- Undertake and coordinate building physics analysis: energy modelling, thermal comfort, overheating, daylight and façade performance
- Support parametric modelling and performance-led design optimisation
- Assess and integrate renewable and low-carbon energy solutions
- Deliver whole life and embodied carbon assessments
- Support Net Zero Carbon strategy development
- Produce high-quality technical reports, models and presentations
- Present technical work to clients and stakeholders
- Mentor and review work of junior engineers
About You
Essential:
- Strong background in environmental design, building physics or performance engineering
- Solid understanding of passive and low-carbon design strategies
- At least 5 years' experience in environmental design or sustainability engineering
- Experience delivering performance analysis on complex building projects
- Knowledge of UK regulations and frameworks including Part L, BREEAM, NABERS and Net Zero standards
- Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior colleagues
- Relevant STEM or engineering degree
Desirable:
- Experience with IES-VE, Rhino/Grasshopper or similar tools
- Scripting experience (Python, C#, JavaScript)
- Familiarity with LEED, BREEAM and planning requirements
- Progress towards Chartered status
