The Opportunity
A leading global infrastructure and environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join their growing team in Glasgow. You'll play a key role in a wide range of projects across multiple sectors, working alongside a Principal Ecologist and helping build a talented, forward-thinking ecology team with a strong focus on innovation and biodiversity.
The Role
As a Senior Ecologist, you'll collaborate across disciplines — including planning, engineering and design — while being supported by an established Ecology Team. You'll help grow existing partnerships with water utilities and contribute to expanding the wider client base.
- Conduct ecological surveys, assessments and impact evaluations across a variety of project types
- Design and implement ecological mitigation and biodiversity enhancement measures
- Apply for and manage protected species licences
- Prepare and contribute to PEAs, ECIAs, ecological EIA chapters and HRAs
- Work with UKHab classification and the Defra Biodiversity Metric
- Mentor junior ecologists and support their professional development
- Support water utility frameworks and pursue new project opportunities
About You
You'll hold a minimum BSc in Ecology or a related environmental discipline, with solid consultancy experience and a strong understanding of UK and EU wildlife legislation and policy.
- Experience delivering detailed ecological assessments including PEAs, ECIAs, and HRA contributions
- Proficiency in UKHab classification and the Defra Metric — essential
- A protected species survey licence for at least one species (e.g. great crested newt, bats)
- Experience managing projects, budgets and client relationships
- Strong communication, teamwork and leadership skills
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
Desirable
- Membership of CIEEM, IEMA or a similar professional body
- Proven line management experience
